These words were spoken during his visit to Imam Khomeini Agro-Industry by the CEO of Sugarcane & By-Products Development Company and he stressed the need to improve water use efficiency in the agricultural sector.
According to the PR report, on Monday, July 28^th referring to the extreme decrease in the river load of the Dez River, Dr. Abd Ali Naseri said that despite the damage to the sugarcane fields due to the water crisis, the management of water withdrawal from this river must be such that the water required for downstream agricultural lands is also provided.
According to him, simultaneously with the river load reductions in the province, variable and periodic furrow irrigation plan, reuse of drainage and controlled drainage have been implemented in the Sugarcane fields in order to reduce water consumption.
Naseri stated that water consumption management in the Sugarcane fields is being carried out with the aim of reducing 20% of total water consumption in these fields.
In the end, the CEO of Sugarcane Development Co. expressed his hope that with the planning done and the efforts of the employees and the cooperation of the responsible agencies, the sugarcane industry will survive the drought crisis and by producing the required sugar in the year named “Production Support”, the country will be on the track of self-sufficiency.
In conditions of drought and water crisis, continuous visits of the Sugarcane Development Co. CEO to the Sugarcane lands are effectuated, in order to manage water consumption in the Sugarcane Agro-Industries.
The occurrence of severe drought and water shortage crisis in the crop year 2017-2018 caused great damage to Khuzestan sugarcane farms, eventually reducing sugar production to 300,000 tons in the Seven Sugarcane Units of Khuzestan.
