Emphasis was placed on the proper management of water extraction from the river and the optimal use of water in the sugarcane fields
According to the PR reports, this visit was made on Wednesday, June 9th, in order to manage water consumption in the drought conditions and water shortage crisis at the Sugarcane Agro-Industries.
In this visit, Dr. Abd Ali Naseri, with emphasis on water extraction in accordance with designated allocations, on improving water consumption efficiency in the agricultural sector, said: Water consumption management in sugarcane fields, is being done through the use of special irrigation methods.
He added: “In the current crop year, due to the severity of the drought, a 20% reduction in the total water consumption of the seven sugarcane fields has been targeted.
The CEO of Sugarcane Development Company, stating that the management of water consumption in the Sugarcane Development Company is based on knowledge & experience, and emphasized: Variable and periodic furrow irrigation, reuse of drains and controlled drainage in the sugarcane fields have been implemented and has become an operation in which, while reducing water consumption, production efficiency will also be improved.
Sugarcane & By-Products Development Co. has also held several training workshops to improve irrigation management in sugarcane fields in the Seven Agro-Industries.
The occurrence of severe drought and water shortage crisis in the crop year 2017-2018 caused great damage to Khuzestan sugarcane farms, eventually reducing sugar production up to 300,000 tons in the seven sugarcane units of Khuzestan.
In the previous crop year, sugar production in the Seven Sugarcane Units of Sugarcane & By-Products Development Co. reached an unprecedented figure of more than 618,000 tons.
