Preservation of the environment and the optimal use of water is a priority of the Sugarcane Industry
According to the PR report of Sugarcane & By-Products Development Company, during the visit, sugarcane and petrochemical industry experts discussed five biological treatment processes for industrial effluents, including activated sludge, optional lagoon, discontinuous phase reactor, mobile bed bioreactor and membrane bioreactor.
Fajr Petrochemical Refinery with a capacity of 1000 cubic meters per hour is one of the modern wastewater treatment systems and most of the treated effluent of this petrochemical unit is used to irrigate green space.
Sugarcane & Development Company, with seven industrial wastewater refineries as the first large agro-industrial unit, has taken an important step in protecting the environment and the optimal use of water and has saved 360,000 cubic meters of water per a Sugarcane unit annually.

On the sidelines of the visit, the CEO of the Sugarcane Research Institute mentioned the operation of seven sugarcane refineries and described them as an important achievement in the cycle of water resource consumption and environmental protection.
According to Dr. Kourosh Taherkhani, the heads and supervisors of the sugarcane refineries visited the Fajr Petrochemical refinery with the aim of evaluating the capabilities and using the experiences and exchanging views on the refinery and industrial wastewater projects.
The director of Environmental Research at the Sugarcane Research Institute also said that the latest executive findings in the field of industrial wastewater refinery plants were the result of this visit.
Behnam Karami added: “In this visit, sugarcane researchers got acquainted with the performance of wastewater treatment systems, the performance of new refinery systems and the possibility of wastewater treatment with different qualities in existing systems.”
This visit was carried out in line with the mission of the Sugarcane Research Institute and with the staff empowerment approach, retraining and gaining new experiences.
