Production leap in the sugarcane industry
The CEO of the Sugarcane Development & By-Products Co. said: “This year, the production of yeast will increase from 10 to 12 thousand tons and industrial alcohol from 33 million liters to 40 million liters.”
Referring to the jump in production in all production sectors of the seven sugarcane units in Khuzestan, Naseri expressed hope that in the next crop year, sugar production will increase by 100,000 tons to reach 700,000 tons which is the nominal capacity of the company.
The executive operations of the seven sugarcane units of Khuzestan in an area of 84,000 hectares in the south and north of Ahvaz started in the 70’s and were utilized one after another from the beginning of the 80’s.
The seven sugarcane units of Salman Farsi, Hakim Farabi, Imam Khomeini, Dehkhoda, Amirkabir, Mirza Koochak Khan and Debal Khazaei supply about 40% of country’s sugar.
Haft Tappeh and Karun sugarcane units are other independent sugar production units in Khuzestan.
The country’s annual need for sugar is 2.2 million tons, of which 1.5 million tons are produced domestically and about 700,000 tons of raw sugar is imported from abroad, a significant part of the imported raw (yellow) sugar in Khuzestan is converted into white sugar in the Sugarcane Development & By-Products Co.
