Diesel consumption in the industrial sector of Ahvaz Hakim Farabi Sugarcane Company affiliated to Sugarcane & By-Products Development Co., was eliminated and replaced with natural gas in order to improve environmental conditions and economic efficiency.

According to IRNA, during the ceremony of utilization of this environmental project, it was announced: with the implementation of this project, the annual consumption of 143,000 liters of diesel to start the boilers of Hakim Farabi Agro-industrial Complex, which produce steam will be prevented.
Aligned with this on Sunday the CEO of Sugarcane & By-Products Development Co., said: “This environmental and economic project will be implemented in 6 other sugarcane complexes affiliated to the Sugarcane & By-Products Development Co., until September this year.”
Abd Ali Naseri stated that the annual economic cost of replacing natural gas in the company’s seven sugarcane complexes is 70 billion Rials and added: With the implementation of this plan, diesel consumption in the industrial sector of the sugarcane units will be completely eliminated and will only be used in the agricultural sector and for the use of agricultural machinery.
By stating that environmental project was carried out for 2 months using the technical and scientific abilities of local experts with the least cost, Naseri continued: The terms of the sanctions were an opportunity for us to use the abilities of local experts to launch this project.
According to IRNA, the executive operations of the Seven Sugarcane units of Khuzestan on an area of 84,000 hectares in the south and north of Ahvaz started in the 1990s and have been put to use one after another since the beginning of 2001.
The Seven Sugarcane units of Salman Farsi, Hakim Farabi, Imam Khomeini, Dehkhoda, Amirkabir, Mirzakoochak Khan and Debal Khazaei alone supply about 40% of the country’s sugar.
Haft Tappeh and Karoon Sugarcane units are other independent sugar production units in Khuzestan.
The country’s annual need for sugar is 2.2 million tons, of which 1.5 million tons is produced domestically and about 700,000 tons of raw sugar is imported from abroad, which some of this imported raw (yellow) sugar is turned into white sugar in Khuzestan Sugarcane & By-product Development Company.
According to the vision plan of 2025, about 70% of the country’s sugar production need will be provided in Khuzestan by the production of two strategic products, sugarcane and sugar beet.
