Turning Waste into Wealth: 83,000 MDF Boards Made from Sugarcane Bagasse in One Month

In a landmark achievement for Iran’s agro-industrial sector, Loh-e Sabz Jonoob Company, a subsidiary of the Sugarcane and By-products Development Company, has set a national record by producing over 83,000 MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) boards in a single month from sugarcane bagasse

A historic record set in the country’s wood industry

In a landmark achievement for Iran’s agro-industrial sector, Loh-e Sabz Jonoob Company, a subsidiary of the Sugarcane and By-products Development Company, has set a national record by producing over 83,000 MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) boards in a single month from sugarcane bagasse. This remarkable milestone, achieved in June, underscores significant advancements amid widespread industry challenges.

At a time when many Iranian wood industries are confronting substantial hurdles such as shortages of raw materials, energy disruptions, and environmental pressures, Loh-e Sabz Jonoob’s achievement is particularly noteworthy. The company’s monthly production of over 83,000 boards equates to approximately 12,000 cubic meters, marking the highest output recorded in its 14-year operational history.

Pezhman Chehrazi, CEO of Loh-e Sabz Jonoob, attributed this accomplishment to dedicated teamwork, strategic management practices, and steadfast support from Dr. Abd Ali Naseri, CEO of the Sugarcane and By-products Development Company. “We are not competing with wood; we are creating value from sugarcane waste,” Chehrazi emphasized, highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of utilizing agricultural by-products.

Previously, Loh-e Sabz Jonoob demonstrated progressive growth when it surpassed its own production record by manufacturing 356,000 MDF sheets during the first half of the last fiscal year. This trajectory continued in February, with the production of 75,000 sheets in a single month, indicating sustained momentum and resilience fueled by domestic expertise and resources.

The MDF boards, branded as “Sabz Choob” (Green Wood), have gained substantial recognition within Iran’s domestic market and are now penetrating regional markets, effectively expanding the country’s environmentally sustainable industry footprint.

Beyond commercial success, the production of MDF from sugarcane bagasse significantly reduces reliance on imported wood, aligning closely with national environmental objectives aimed at addressing serious issues like deforestation and resource depletion. By leveraging agricultural waste for industrial purposes, Loh-e Sabz Jonoob Company provides an innovative solution that promotes environmental conservation and economic self-sufficiency, setting a powerful example within Iran’s agricultural and industrial sectors.
